How the FMLA Calculator Works
Eligibility Check
We apply the three federal FMLA eligibility tests: (1) covered employer with 50+ employees, (2) at least 12 months of employment, and (3) at least 1,250 hours worked in the past 12 months. All three must pass for FMLA eligibility.
Leave Duration
Standard FMLA provides 12 weeks of leave. Military caregiver leave provides up to 26 weeks in a single 12-month period. We calculate both based on your leave reason.
Date Calculations
We add the appropriate number of weeks to your leave start date to calculate your return date. We also calculate the 30-day advance notice deadline for foreseeable leave.
State Paid Leave
We check whether your state has a paid family or medical leave program. Eleven states and DC currently offer partial wage replacement that can run concurrently with FMLA. Benefit amounts and waiting periods vary by state.
Important Limitations
This calculator applies federal FMLA rules only. Intermittent leave, employer-specific policies, and interactions with ADA or state laws require professional HR or legal guidance.
